Nuit Blanche in the Village

The Ethereal Forest

Ethereal ForestThousands of Nuit Blanche trekkers passed through the Church Wellesley Village on the evening of November 4th and into the early morning hours of November 5th.   In celebration of the “Ethereal Forest” that once stood in our village 200 years ago, over 12 works of visual art were installed in various locations throughout the Church Wellesley Village and 40 dancers graced our streets from Alexander up to Gloucester throughout the night.

Four specified dance locations and stages supported work by The Toronto Aerial Dance Project, The Larchaud Dance Project and work from various independent choreographers such as Jesse Dell, Tina Fushell and Tracey Norman.  In addition, various members of the BIA donated their space and time in assisting the installation of selected paintings and film presentations.

A big thank you to all of those who assisted the Nightless Collective in helping us with the event this year.

Attendance was high and constant throughout the night right up to about 4:00am.  Cooler, damper weather and a greater interest from the public in seeing more of the various city-wide locations kept pedestrian traffic moving through the village and lingering less as some of the bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood noted.
Thus is the nature and purpose of this event.  To explore the art work of the city in one night.

Plans surrounding the execution and location of a 2009 Nuit Blanche event are in discussion.  The concerns of the residents in the neighbourhood regarding excessive noise levels and use of outdoor audio equipment will be taken into consideration for this and other events in the area.
